Before he was a professor at The Catholic University of America, Glenn Østen Anderson, M.St, MFA, was an elite track and field athlete who knew what it felt like to feel the pressure of performance on meet-day.
His experiences as an athlete are at the heart of MindU, his new documentary short film on mental health in college athletics — partially filmed on the University’s campus and now showing at universities and at academic conferences nationwide. So far, the film has been screened for sports-social work students at the University of Texas-Austin, the UFVA Conference at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, and Coalition of Athletic Communities for Mental Health (COACmH) conference at the University of Colorado Medical Center earlier this year.
Anderson is a recently tenured associate professor of media and communication in the College of Arts & Sciences. He also serves as the University’s Faculty Athletics Representative and as an advisor for student media outlets including WCUA, Cardinal Broadcasting Company, and The Tower. Meghan McDonogh, PhD, MSW, the University’s associate athletic director and head women’s lacrosse coach, is featured in the MindU film and has joined Anderson for the Q&A sessions that followed the screenings.
